Crappy naked life drawing guy

This jerk did the stupidest poses ever and was really lazy and whiney. He kept looking around to listen to other peoples conversations. He also kept moving alot just in general. Plus he had a weird dong.

david duong and andrew wyeth

david duong is a fairly unknown artist but has some great structural drawings. andrew wyeth is an amazing watercolourist. his stuff is some of the best watercolours i've seen (previous 3 pictures). he gets such great tones and colours out of them. I'd like to be as good as him some day! Even if i wouldnt paint the same subject matter, its his technique and skill that are awesome and make the pictures amazing.

Okkk

I don't really know what to post about but the tutorials and using color pallets were all really awesome. I'd like to learn more about that stuff. I am going to try and do a painting with a limited pallet like the dude in the video did. It's really cool..!!!!!!! Yeah! I'm still waiting for my intuos 3 pen, though. Never buy anything from harvey norman!

I have been doing some concept sketches for this concept art thing and it's coming along kinda acceptably. I've been researching world war 1 for costume and weapon ideas, since its based around the early 1930s. Heres some awesome pics!

improvement

heres a couple old pics i did.

i'd improve this first one by defining the form more and adjusting features to fit the caricature more. also i'd probably do good linework and more solid blacks.i like these images... i just need to learn how to paint better :D texters are great.

how i'd impr

some sketches i did in the city ! it's really hard to find somewhere to draw people where they're not making pigs of themselves or staring nervously at you as you try to sketch them inconspicuously

awesome

Hello blog babies
Pre-prod was really cool this week. We decided on a grimm bros fairytale; Iron John. pretty awesome. It's going to be in a wasteland setting with a cool background. We came up with the idea of there could be something wrong with the water, causing everything to look weird and stuff due to its dependency on the water (organic matter needs water yo) whichn includes plants and people and stuff.

I thought of the 3 kingdoms within the fairytale and one could be unreachable by foot or any creature except these giant worms they breed in theri cool little kingdom. Around the kingdom could be like a barren desert too hot and dry for people to cross on, so they need to get towed in these little pods behind giant earth worms which used to inhabit the land around the kingdom, but the kingdom killed them off and selectively bred them so no one could reach them or leave except by the kings permission. I designed a crazy little worm car thing and like it but i wanna do more wit h it.

I understand all the colour theory stuff (i dont know everything but i get the basic relations between colors and what they can signify within different contexts and stuff.)

http://ironbrimley.blogspot.com/ is the blog for all our pre prod work. YAY!

Alphonse Mucha. Everything about him is awesome. Colours, lines, tones, composition. It's all traditional too. It looks 1000x better than all digital vector art in the same style i've seen. It's amazingly deliciouso

some cool animals n stuff!

Values

The information on values was very informative. I have been trying different techniques to convey form and volume and stuff but this let me experiment with a few different techniques. I really like the will eisner book and think his use of cast and form shadow to be really effective. Eric Powell also has some really nice art and good use of form and cast shadow.

I'm quite interested in color theory as i do not usually use colors in my pieces of work. I'll post some experiments on this blog later.

On classes

I have been having a good time doing the storyboards but have had a hard time with some shots. I think its really cool as it has opened more doors for me within cinema like shot relationships with eachother, balance, composition for storytelling purposes, etc etc.

I'll post some storyboards when they're done. I've only got real rough ones at the moment. I think i'll redo some shots as they suck compositionally as well as pointless woo

baboon research

I've been researching baboons for a project. There are many types of baboons. I chose the african savanna-type baboon as i think its looks would most suit the project setting and style. This is due to the baboon's having to blend in with the fictional environment for survival and also i think they have a better emotional range of expression due to their ability to be less creepy than other baboons. When they're mad they look quite creepy though.

i thought this picture was hilarious for some reason

to fix this image, i'd destroy it forever and not leave a trace of its horrible existence

Today we went more in depth about layouts. I got most of it but some of it i'll have to go over again because i was so tired. I've also been looking for alot of awesome concept art, i'll post some at the bottom. I struggle a bit wit ht he storyboards to get the right shots and stuff. The best way to do it is to do really rough then think about particular angles and shit to enhance the narrative later. It saves alot of time and stressing over particular shots. Ok heres some cool concept art inspiring pics i nabbed

adf

To fix this image, i'd first fix the perspective, then give a better sense of lighting. Its completely bizarro perspective, like the camera should be higher or something.

These are some of the characters i did for 2d alternative techniques. They're a family of mechanics or something, kind of like a corny 70s television show i guess. the idea i had for my advertisement for 2d is i'd do it kind of like a extremely low budget ad, kind of like a community tv car yard ad with flashing crap and hideousness. I've chosen the guy second from the right as i like his personality the most. WOOP

Thursday, March 15, 2007

I found the info, this week, on storyboarding to be really helpful and informative (especially the brad bird pdf thing). I've been thinking more about research and have been doing more for my own drawings, like; i researched a ww2 era luger pistol for a drawing for example. I'd really like to find something to read on perspective that ranges from the most basic to the most complex perspectives. It'd be AWESOME DUDES

INN

For the recent project we had to do for drawing an inn, i only did some basic research. I imagined it to be old, dilapidated, rustic and shitty looking. It would have low lighting, have quite rough and basic furniture, flooring and ornamentation and have a fantasy kind of twist due to it existing within a fantasy world. So i just created an environment with tree stumps for seats, ordinary round tables with skins on them for tablecloths, a bar made of raw wood, crappy floor boards (maybe it could have been dirt or something), a weird animal skin in front of an empty fireplace, and tree trunks for support beams.

I had trouble with the perspective in this and screwed it up a fair bit।
